The expansion in ophthalmic services at Abu Road includes the establishment of a College of Ophthalmology, as part of a new eye wing, thanks to support from New World iCare.
The school will continue to offer the Diploma Ophthalmic Techniques course, though the number of seats per batch will be increased to fifteen. The College has also applied for accreditation with IGNOU to conduct a BSc in Optometry course.
It is also proposed to commence a three year DNB post-graduation specialization in ophthalmology course for doctors, conducted in affiliation with the National Board and thus considered equivalent to an MS in ophthalmology.
Besides, several short-term courses of a few weeks duration are planned for ophthalmic doctors - in Community Ophthalmology aimed at equipping doctors and project managers in the techniques and methods of going about community work; Phacoemulsification, the latest technique in cataract surgery and Glaucoma Diagnosis and Management.
